Sharecast Initiative Nepal is proud to be a part of UNICEF’s initiative to track the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 on children and families in Nepal (COVID-19 child and family tracker). By collecting and analyzing data from various parts of Nepal, the CFT Survey plays a crucial role in tracking the socio-economic and multi-sectoral impact of COVID-19 on children and families in Nepal.

Data Collection and Management Experience

Our research experience dates back to 2015 with our annual flagship program: the Nepal Media Landscape Survey and National Opinion Poll. In response to the post-COVID-19 scenario, since the beginning of 2020, Sharecast has redefined its mission to support data-driven decision-making and generate first-hand data for institutions and leaders to make pro-people decisions.

Field Team

Sharecast has built a database of more than 200 professionals, including experienced enumerators and supervisors. We carefully select our enumerators based on our survey needs, geographic region, and the nature of the survey (face-to-face or remote telephone-based and qualitative surveys). We prioritize diversity in language, ethnicity, and place of origin to ensure the accuracy of data collection. We select highly experienced field supervisors who provide onsite mentoring and guidance.

Data Management and Quality Control

Sharecast works with a highly experienced programming and data management team, managing Computer-Aided Personal Interview (CAPI Platform) for real-time survey monitoring and a central server for downloading completed survey forms. We use ONA software for data entry on Android-based devices. Sharecast has experience designing and implementing the survey program on ONA or any ODK-based software. Sharecast employs a stringent quality control mechanism to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.

Core Outputs

Nepal Media Survey is a comprehensive study aimed at identifying and pinpointing the audience in Nepal based on their choices, academic and economic background, consumption behavior, and trust. The annual NMS provides valuable insights to understand the evolving media dynamics and help navigate this complex environment. The NMS sheds light on media consumption patterns, trust levels, and access to media, enabling organizations to refine their strategies and connect with their target audience more effectively. The NMS adopts a multi-stage cluster sampling design with a sample size of over 4500 respondents nationwide.

Child and Family Tracker is a series of periodic household surveys tracking the socio-economic multi-sectoral impact of COVID-19 on children and families in Nepal. The first survey issue was carried out at the end of May 2020 and established the baseline for the periodic surveys to be carried out and issued over the coming months. As part of this initiative, Sharecast is working closely with UNICEF to help document shifts and the adverse effects on Nepal’s health, education, and overall well-being of children and families due to COVID-19.

Our opinion and perception polls promote data-driven decision-making for accountable governance in Nepal. This pilot initiative identifies the value of data-driven decision-making and responsible journalism in strengthening local democracy. Through this initiative, Sharecast aims to foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance. Sharecast also conducts National Opinion Polls. from time to time and supports election candidates and political parties to understand people’s voices during and after elections.

Sharecast is in the early stage of market study, consumer behavior immersions to understand user perspectives for specific services and clients. We have partnered with DishHome, Worldlink, Nepal Krishi Care, and UNILEVER in the past few years. Our past studies have helped businesses gain a competitive edge by providing in-depth consumer behavior analysis, demographic insights, and trend predictions. We specialize in translating data into actionable strategies, fostering growth and excellence for the users.
